These books focus on helping children master basic math facts in various topics, and will bolster your students" test scores by greatly improving their understanding of the math concept you are teaching. Each book has four sections about one specific topic. Sections vary in difficulty allowing you to personalize specific sections toward individual student needs. bby Practice pages are easy to use, quick, effective, unique, engaging, and developmentally appropriate for all children.

Each book contains easy-to-follow instructions, an English parent letter, a Spanish parent letter, 4 different sections on one topic, answer keys, teaching tips, and 80 pages of practice. The thirty-one books currently in print cover topics of addition, subtraction, money, number sense, time, equivalence, fractions, decimals, percents and more.

So how do they work? Every page in each section has the same layout, so teachers can select individual practice for students based on their specific academic needs. Each page has a number of problems on it, allowing teachers the choice of assigning one problem or an entire page of practice. How much money do you have? The exercises in Counting Mixed Coins help children learn about about the value of coins by using a hundred-grid to represent a dollar, as shown in these examples. (Enlarge the image to the left by clicking on it.) Challenges range from a section of simple examples (pennies and nickels only) to more difficult challenges that include a variety of coins (dimes, quarters and/or half-dollars). This book is a compliment to Practice Page books PPDL03 (Choosing Coins) and PPDL12 (Making Change to $1.00).

The multiple uses for this collection of exercises make Modeling Numbers 0-100 a favorite! Students are challenged to either represent a number on a hundred-grid or determine what number has already been represented. Once completed (in whatever way makes sense to the child), the number is explored and described in word form or standard form, to name a few. Likewise, students may be challenged to find the compatible number that makes 100 (such as 46 and 54). Space is provided for you to ask students to add to the number or remove from the number. Students who practice "seeing" a quantity on a hundred-grid develop the ability to imagine such on in their mind's eye. These mental images strengthen each student's ability to perform mental math.

You are purchasing an item that costs 16 cents. You have two dimes, one nickel and three pennies. Which coins will you choose? Choosing Coins makes learning how to do this very easy. Your students will use a hundred-grid to represent a dollar. (Click on the example to the right to see enlarged examples.) The solution will become apparent as your students sketch coin values on the grid. Many exercises have more than one possible solution, which leads to wonderful discussions about students' different solutions and representations. This book is a compliment to Practice Page books PPDL01 (Counting Mixed Coins) and PPDL12 (Making Change to $1.00).

Addition Facts 0-10 provides opportunities for students to explore the addition of sums to 10. Each equation is proven with a representation on a ten-grid. Exercises include sections of both vertical and horizontal equations. In the horizontal equations, students learn that the sum can go to the left or to the right. Advanced sections challenge students to use algebraic thinking to solve for the missing numbers in equations. Because each child's method of representing an equation is honored, your children will be eager to share how they "see" the solution. Students who repeatedly illustrate the sums to ten, using these exercises, soon "memorize" their basic addition facts. Differentiating instruction is made easy with the variety of exercises provided in this book. We recommend that you use Practice Page books PPDL05 (Subtraction Facts to Ten), PPDL10 (Addition Facts to Twenty) and PPDL23 (Multiple Addends Through 20) to compliment this book.

Subtraction Facts 0-10 helps children make sense of subtraction as they represent their solutions on a ten-grid. (See enlarged samples by clicking on the image to the left.) As representations are shared, students broaden their understanding by seeing another child's illustration and thinking about the solution in a different way.  Both horizontal and vertical equations are included. Challenges range from easy to more difficult. The last two sections provide opportunities for students to use algebraic thinking as they solve for unknowns and relate the operation of addition to subtraction. We recommend that you use Practice Page books PPDL04 (Addition Facts to Ten) and PPDL10 (Subtraction Facts to Twenty) to compliment this book.

What color do I need? How many squares must I color? Will my grid be full or empty? This book is a MUST for every Kindergarten teacher! Children who use these exercises learn their numbers, number words AND their color words. One-to-one correspondence is mastered as number sense for quantities through ten are explored. Students love to find the correct crayon and color the appropriate quantity on a ten-grid in whatever way they choose. (Click on the image to the left to see examples.) This one is a real confidence-booster for young learners.  Practice Page book PPDL09 (Numbers and Words 11-20) is the perfect compliment to this book. 

Have your students memorized the six pairs of compatible whole numbers that make ten? Recalling the combinations becomes second nature as your children work on a ten-grid and think about how many squares are full and how many are empty. Memorization of the pairs of numbers occurs as students visualize "pretend" grids. The last section encourages students to think fast! This one is a MUST for teachers of grades K-2! 

In Beginning Addition 0-10 children begin to think about combining sets and connecting symbolic representation to their actions. By working on a ten-grid, the numbers and symbols make sense and compliment one another. Opportunities are provided for students to encode as well as decode. Students love showing how to solve "big problems". Many teachers use Practice Page book PPDL06 (Numbers and Words 0-10) before introducing this concept.

What numbers cause the most frustration for young learners? Those pesky "teen" numbers. There just does not seem to be a pattern! This book addresses this set of numbers and provides opportunities for students to represent their values on a twenty-grid. By repeatedly connecting the meaning of the number to the quantity, students develop their own thoughts and soon sort through the confusion. Kindergarten and first grade teachers claim that this book is a lifesaver! We recommend that you use this book as a follow-up to Practice Page book PPDL06 (Numbers and Words 0-10).

Variety is the spice of life! Your children will love the freedom to illustrate their thinking on the twenty-grid when practicing finding sums 11-20. (Click on the image to the left to view student examples.) Students make sense of the addition facts 11-20 and eventually commit them to memory with repeated use of the activities in this book. The range of difficulty varies from basic addition in both horizontal and vertical forms to solving for missing addends. The grid-model representation proves the solution. Use this book as a compliment to Practice Page books PPDL04 (Addition Facts 0-10), PPDL10 (Subtraction Facts 11-20) and PPDL23 (Multiple Addends Through 20).

Subtraction Facts 11-20 is a powerful tool for laying a strong foundation for a select group of subtraction facts that students often struggle to remember. Likewise, students who repeatedly explore these exercises develop a keen understanding of balancing equations. Children use the accompanying twenty-grid to represent all parts of the equation in a personal way. (Click on the image to the left to view enlarged work samples.) The proof is in the picture, resulting in less errors. Before long, an image of the twenty-grid is implanted in a child's visual memory. Such visualization leads students to the mastery of these facts. Use this book as a compliment to Practice Page books PPDL05 (Subtraction Facts 0-10) and PPDL09 (Addition Facts 11-20).

Making Change Through $1.00 is a book of 160 exercises that allows students to act as cash clerks. Students are told how much money they start with, how much money they spend and they must figure out how to make the change. By coupling the concept of coin value with student-drawn representations on a hundred-grid, your students will be able to "see" the amount of change as well as the coins that might make that value.  Sections vary in difficulty with the use of the half-dollar. We recommend using this book after Practice Page books PPDL01 (Counting Mixed Coins) and PPDL03 (Choosing Coins).

2-Digit Addition Through 100 is a collection of 480 addition problems, each with a hundred-grid provided for children to show their thinking and prove their work. Space is provided for children to check their work with a sketch, write the equation in a different way, break down the equation into parts, write an accompanying word problem, etc. Some of the addition challenges are written vertically while others are written horizontally. Likewise, the placement of the solution varies. The last two sections present algebraic challenges, which are easily solved by looking at the representation shaded on the hundred-grid.
