Who are Debby
and Libby?
Debby
Head and Libby Pollett are true leaders in the field of education.
Together they have more than a half-century of experience teaching in the
elementary public schools in Shelbyville, KY. It was those very
experiences that led them to work with the Math Learning Center in Portland,
Oregon in the development of a mathematics curriculum for grades 3 and 4
entitled Opening Eyes to Mathematics. Consulting and working with teachers on
the implementation of Opening Eyes, Box It or Bag It, Math and the Mind's Eye,
and Visual Mathematics has taken them to 43 of the 50 states.
Since that time Debby and Libby founded their own publishing company, bby Publications (Do you get it?), and a sister consulting firm, Head-Pollett Consultants, Inc. With an emphasis on supplemental materials, their publications and workshops deal primarily with the teaching and learning of mathematics (although if you look carefully, you will find materials that emphasize other content areas). Retired from teaching, Debby and Libby now spend their time writing and traveling the country, as they work to make teaching and learning the BEST IT CAN BE! During the school year, when they are not busy working with teachers, they can usually be found doing what they love best, WORKING WITH KIDS while their teachers watch! Summers are usually devoted to helping teachers improve their own mathematics content and conducting professional development workshops.
Families are important to the bby gals. Libby's husband, Hubie, is a retired guidance counselor, who spends much of his time as the chairman of the Shelby County Parks Board. Their older daughter, Betsy resides in Orange County, CA with her husband Roberto and son, Ryan. Libby travels to California as often as possible! Imagine that! Libby's younger daughter, Sally, is now teaching first grade. She resides in Shelbyville, KY with her husband, Alan, and son, Lawson.
Debby's husband, Randy, runs bby Publications and Head-Pollett Consultants while the girls are out of town. Their son, Curtis, is currently employed as the Assistant Director of Athletic Development at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Amy, their daughter, is married to Michael Jones. The couple currently resides in Livingston, Alabama, where she teaches communications for the University of West Alabama and he serves as the pitching coach for the university's baseball team.
