Here we plan to share stuff about our families, favorite recipes, and great stories!

You may wonder when the bby gals have time to cook!  Occasionally they pull out the aprons and give Martha Stewart a run for her money!  Sally, Libby's youngest daughter, is recently married and has discovered that great cooking is a major key to married life.  Sally's Grape Salad is a classic.  You should try this one!

Sally’s Grape Salad

2 lbs. green grapes, washed

2 lbs. red grapes, washed

8 oz. cream cheese (fat free ok)

8 oz. sour cream (fat free ok)

1 t vanilla

1 cup chopped pecans

˝ cup brown sugar

Wash grapes and set aside. Mix cream cheese and sour cream. Add vanilla. Stir over grapes until coated. Mix pecans and brown sugar. Sprinkle over grapes and serve chilled.

We take lots of ribbing from our West Coast friends when we try to order grits in a restaurant.  This recipe for Garlic Cheese Grits is our favorite.  It was passed down to us from Ann Riner, who taught second grade with us for several years at Southside Elementary School in Shelbyville, KY.  Try serving them with dinner as a macaroni and cheese substitute.  Or serve them along with fresh fruit and quiche for brunch.  Oh my, these grits are absolutely delicious! And they will make a GRIT-LOVER out of you skeptical folks!

Ann Riner's Garlic Cheese Grits

You will need:

  • one cup of quick grits (located in the grocery near the quick oatmeal)

  • one 6-ounce tube of garlic cheese, cubed

  • one stick of margarine

  • 2 eggs

  • milk

Cook grits as directed on the box.  While hot, add cheese and margarine.  Stir until melted.  Break both eggs into a one cup measure.  Add enough milk to fill the cup.  Beat well.  Add grits and stir well.  Pour into an 8-inch square buttered baking dish.  Sprinkle with crumbled Ritz crackers, if desired.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes (or until firm).

Yummy, Yum, Yum!

Another great recipe:

Hot Ham Sandwiches

1 package Party Buns

Shaved Ham

Pepper Jack Cheese

Sauce:

2 Sticks of Margarine, melted

2 t worchestshire (or however you spell it)

2 t. Spicy Brown Mustard

2 t poppy seeds

Put bottoms of party buns in oblong cake pan. Put ham and cheese on each. Pour half of sauce over open sandwiches. Put tops on buns and pour remaining sauce over the buns.

Bake at 350, uncovered for about 15-20 minutes.
